‘Kraken’: Scientists discover 19-metre-long apex predator octopus
Researchers uncovered fossils of the giant octopus Nanaimoteuthis haggarti, which lived 86 to 72 million years ago and grew up to 19 meters long. Lead author Yasuhiro Iba stated the findings indicate these octopuses were apex predators alongside marine reptiles and sharks, altering perceptions of ancient ocean ecosystems. This research was published in Science on Thursday.
