Amid fuel shock, train use hits all-time high in south-east Queensland

Train usage in south-east Queensland reached a record high last week, recording over 1.25 million journeys. This marked a 14 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, attributed to affordable fares and fuel price surges. Queensland Rail chief executive Kat Stapleton noted that the 50 cent fares are significantly encouraging public transport.
