US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth requested the resignation of Army Chief of Staff General Randy George amid ongoing military tensions with Iran. The request coincided with discussions among 40 nations about forming a coalition to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. General George, in position since August 2023, will be replaced by Lieutenant General Christopher LaNeve.
