Avocado ripeness scanner trialed in Sydney supermarket to reduce waste

An avocado ripeness scanner is being trialed at an independent supermarket in Sydney to help customers select ripe fruit. Developed by Dutch company OneThird, the scanner uses near-infrared light to assess ripeness without damaging the avocados. Avocados Australia CEO John Tyas stated that the device could significantly reduce waste caused by bruised fruit in stores.
