The Western Australia government released a draft Fitzroy-Derby water management plan for public consultation, aiming to protect the culturally and ecologically significant Fitzroy River. However, traditional owners and environmental groups claim the plan's groundwater limits of 75.7 gigalitres per year and restrictions on surface water extraction do not adequately safeguard the river's health. The consultation period ends on June 30.
