Amid fuel shock, train use hits all-time high in south-east Queensland

Train usage in south-east Queensland reached an all-time high last week, surpassing 1.25 million journeys. Queensland Rail chief executive Kat Stapleton noted a 14 percent increase from 2025, attributing the surge to affordable 50 cent fares and rising fuel prices. Overall public transport usage rose by 7.4 percent, reflecting a shift towards sustainable commuting options.
