Prized 'whale vomit' perfume ingredient washes up on WA beach
A rare whale by-product washed ashore at Ocean Beach in Denmark, Western Australia, when fisher Ryan Clarke discovered ambergris, a waxy substance used in expensive perfumes. The rockmelon-sized chunk floated and melted when heated, confirming its authenticity. Only two other ambergris finds have been recorded in WA history, making this discovery extremely valuable to scientists and museums.
