These salmon got high on cocaine. That wasn’t the craziest part
In a 2022 study, environmental toxicologist Jack Brand found that salmon given cocaine swam faster and farther than their sober peers. The research, published in Current Biology, highlights concerns over the ecological impact of drug pollution in waterways, as fish exposed to benzoylecgonine showed increased activity, traveling nearly twice.
