Why this cattle farmer is flooding his property with salt water
Queensland cattle farmer Christopher Rek removed tidal gates from his property in Mackay, allowing salt water to restore coastal wetlands for the first time in 50 years. Within six months, juvenile barramundi and other species returned to the restored habitat. The region has up to 600 such barriers installed in the 1960s-1970s to support agriculture, now being systematically removed.
