Stubborn, loveable: The famous racehorse being treated for melanomas
Retired racehorse Chautauqua, 15, is undergoing treatment for melanomas at Living Legends equine retirement farm near Melbourne. The famous sprinter had surgery removing 10 tumors in September and now receives targeted chemotherapy injections and a new vaccine costing $3000. Melanomas affect 80 percent of grey horses over 15, though equine cases rarely spread and remain treatable with excellent prognosis.
