Spike in number of Tasmanian police on mental health leave
More than 100 Tasmanian police officers are off duty on mental health compensation claims, doubling over five years to 102 as of February 2026. A 2023 coroner recommended mandatory six-monthly PTSD screenings for all officers, but Tasmania Police has not implemented the checks. Police Association president Shane Tilley says funding is needed to support officer wellbeing and retention.
