'Easter bilby' populations booming across sanctuaries

Greater bilby populations have quadrupled across six Australian wildlife sanctuaries since 2021, reaching 5,330 individuals, according to a census by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. The reintroduction of the species to Newhaven Animal Sanctuary significantly contributed to this growth, where the local population soared from 66 to 530 bilbies. However, drought could temporarily reduce numbers in the future.
