Vice Admiral Mark Hammond appointed first submariner Chief of Defence Force
Vice Admiral Mark Hammond was appointed Chief of the Australian Defence Force by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday, marking the first time a submariner will lead. He will take over in July from David Johnston, with challenges including the AUKUS submarine deal and increased demands in the Indo-Pacific. Lieutenant General Susan Coyle becomes the first female chief.
