NT government accused of hiding long-term watch house detentions
The Northern Territory government has renamed a Darwin watch house to conceal long-term detentions, the Aboriginal justice agency NAAJA claimed this week. Chief executive Ben Grimes said clients report being held in small cells for weeks, sometimes without sunlight for days. Corrections Minister Gerard Maley denied the practice, saying the facility provides only short-term transitional accommodation.
